Arcana is a modifier system in Vampire Survivors. Collecting the Randomazzo unlocks the Arcana system and the first Arcana, Sarabande of Healing.

Additional Arcanas are unlocked by reaching level 99 with certain characters, or by reaching minute 31 in certain stages.

Mechanics

Each Arcana modifies gameplay in a particular way. The player can choose to enable or disable Arcanas in the stage selection screen.

With Arcanas enabled, a total of 3 Arcanas may be selected during a round:

  1. At the beginning of the round all Arcanas are offered as options. Clicking the blue button with a question mark will randomly choose one.
  2. When the chest dropped at the 11:00 timestamp is collected. 4 Arcanas are randomly offered as options.
  3. When the chest dropped at the 21:00 timestamp is collected. 4 Arcanas are randomly offered as options.

The second and third Arcanas are rewarded in Treasure Chests dropped by specific bosses. These chests only award an Arcana and nothing else, unless the player has selected Game Killer (0), which causes chests to always grant three rewards. If Arcanas are not enabled, the bosses holding an Arcana chest do not appear in the stage. If fewer than 3 Arcanas are unlocked, the second or third Arcana will not appear in their respective chests. The Reroll PowerUp can be used to reroll the second and third Arcanas.

In Boss Rash stage, the bosses are exceptionally spawned alongside the 5:00 and 10:00 waves. Unlike normal bosses, they will not be spawned again if the player uses the red pressure plate to resummon the wave.

Arcanas

There are currently 20 Arcanas out of 22 total. Each Arcana is represented by a Roman numeral.

Trivia

  • Arcana can be unlocked by typing "randomazzami" while in main menu, giving the Randomazzo and Sarabande of Healing.[1]
  • All the "Reach minute 31 in the [stage]" and Game Killer (0) Arcanas can be unlocked by typing "aintnobodygottimeforthat" while in the main menu, giving all five Arcanas.
  • This deck of Arcana are loosely based on the real Major Arcana used in Tarot card readings. For example, Boogaloo of Illusions (XVIII) real counterpart is The Moon (XVIII) Arcana which represents intuition, loneliness, and illusion.
  • All the Arcana names are based on musical tracks from the Castlevania series.
  • In normal stages the Arcanas are dropped by a Glowing Bat boss.
  • Placeholders for all Arcanas already exist in the game files. The remaining ones are labeled (and named) T09_DIVINE (IX - Divine Bloodlines) and T21_BLOODY (XXI - Bloody Tears).
    • Historically, these placeholder names were often slightly modified before being officially releasing. For example, what was once place held as "Tragic Prince" has since been released as Tragic Princess (III).
