Arcana is a modifier system in Vampire Survivors. Collecting the Randomazzo unlocks the Arcana system and the first Arcana, Sarabande of Healing.
Additional Arcanas in the base set are unlocked by reaching level 50 with certain characters, or by reaching minute 31 in certain stages. Collecting the Darkasso unlocks an additional set of "Darkanas", allowing even more Arcanas to be unlocked by achieving specific tasks with certain other characters.
Mechanics[]
Each Arcana modifies gameplay in a particular way. The player can choose to enable or disable Arcanas in the stage selection screen.
With Arcanas enabled, the player will obtain three Arcanas over the course of a run (although through certain means, more than three can be obtained):
- At the beginning of a run, the player is allowed to choose one of any unlocked Arcana or Darkana. They are also given the option to select a random one.
- At 11:00, a special boss will spawn that, upon death, will drop an Arcana Chest. Upon being picked up, the chest will allow the player to choose a second Arcana. Four randomly chosen Arcanas or Darkanas are offered as options, and the player may use Rerolls to get new choices.
- At 21:00, another special boss will spawn, dropping another Arcana Chest.
If the player has three or more Arcanas, the Arcana bosses will instead drop regular chests. If Arcanas are disabled, the Arcana bosses will not appear in the stage.
If the player has unlocked a total of 23 or more Arcanas or Darkanas, Arcana Chests will instead offer six random Arcanas as opposed to four, and each Arcana Chest will allow the player one free Reroll.
In stages where the time limit is not 30:00, the Arcana bosses may appear at different times. In Boss Rash, Bat Country, and Tiny Bridge, the bosses instead spawn at 5:00 and 10:00.
Some characters automatically start with Arcana effects, such as Avatar Infernas with Heart of Fire (XIX). These Arcana effects do not take up an Arcana slot, and they will still be present if Arcanas are disabled.
Obtaining more than three Arcanas[]
There is no limit to the amount of Arcanas a player can have at one time, although more unique methods are required for obtaining more than three.
- Queen Sigma is allowed to select an additional Arcana at levels 1, 2, 3, 77, and 108. All unlocked Arcanas are available as choices.
- When Inverse mode is active, the Merchant will sell an Arcana for 20,000, regardless of how many Arcanas the player currently has. All unlocked Arcanas are available as choices.
- With Endless mode enabled, the Merchant will appear again every cycle of a normal game length (every 30 minutes in most normal stages), allowing the player to eventually obtain every Arcana in one run, provided they can afford it.
- Chests dropped by bosses spawned by Moonlight Bolero (VI) can occasionally contain Arcanas. There is no limit to how many times this can happen, meaning one can obtain a theoretically infinite number of Arcanas from these bosses.
It is advisable to avoid picking up any extra Arcanas until the two collected from the Arcana bosses at 11:00 and 21:00 are obtained, as these bosses will not drop Arcana Chests if the player possesses three or more Arcanas.

- Arcanas can be unlocked by typing the code "randomazzami" into the Secrets menu, granting the player the Randomazzo and Sarabande of Healing (VI).
- Darkanas can be unlocked by typing the code "darkassami" into the Secrets menu, granting the player the Darkasso and Moonlight Bolero (VI).
- All of the "Reach minute 31 in the [stage]" Arcanas (Mad Groove (VIII), Out of Bounds (XII), Disco of Gold (XV), and Silent Old Sanctuary (XX)), as well as Game Killer (0), can be unlocked by typing "aintnobodygottimeforthat" while on the main menu.
- This deck of Arcanas is loosely based on the real Major Arcana used in Tarot card readings. For example, Boogaloo of Illusions (XVIII)'s real counterpart is The Moon (XVIII), which represents intuition, loneliness, and illusion.
- In normal stages, the Arcanas are dropped by a Glowing Bat boss.
- Placeholders for all Arcanas existed in the game files before all Arcana were officially released, with the unreleased ones having placeholder names being musical tracks from the Castlevania series. Most of them were slightly modified before being officially released. For example, what was once place held as "Tragic Prince" has since been released as Tragic Princess (III).
- The pictures on the Darkanas are based on the pictures on their Randomazzo counterparts. For example, Gemini (I) and Sapphire Mist (I) depict the same two figures.
- The correct singular form of the word is "arcanum", whereas "arcana" is already in plural. However, in-game, "arcana" is used to refer to a single card and "arcanas" is used for multiple.
- With Game Killer (0), all treasure chests will always contain at least three rewards, allowing Arcana Chests to contain two additional chest rewards.
