Death Spiral is a weapon in Vampire Survivors. It is the evolution of Axe, requiring the Candelabrador. It is the starting weapon of Mask of the Red Death.
Effects[]
Death Spiral shoots out 9 spinning scythes around the player. Each scythe has extremely high pierce and are bigger, with damage reduction to compensate. It also has a slower Projectile Speed which make them stay on screen for longer.
Death Spiral scales with the character's Area stat multiplied by 1.2, decreased by 0.1 compared to Axe. While this may seem like a downside, Death Spiral base Area is increased and in total it gives a multiplier of 1.44. Also, Area bonuses from the character is capped at 10 times the base value. In the end, Axe will still cap at 10 times bigger the original and Death Spiral will cap at 12 times bigger.
Arcanas[]
Selecting Slash (XVI) Arcana allows Death Spiral to critical hit. Death Spiral's critical hits deal 4x damage and have 30% chance to occur. This chance is affected by Luck.
Iron Blue Will (VII) allows the scythes to bounce off of the edges of the screen once. Upon bouncing, the scythe completely reverses its horizontal and vertical speed instead of just one of them according to the edge.
Levels[]
With Limit Break, Death Spiral can be further leveled up.

Tips[]
- The fixed direction of the scythes is vastly different compared to the arcing behavior of the Axe. While the consistency makes the Death Spiral easier to understand and use, you will no longer be able to focus all of your axes directly north into enemies for easy damage.
- However, as you move in one direction, the scythes on screen will never despawn. If the movement speed is similar to the Projectile Speed, more and more scythes can be stacked and becomes a wall of damage up until its Pool Limit.
- Death Spirals benefit greatly from Area bonuses as they are big already and even has a bonus multiplier. The bigger they are, the more enemies they will be able to pierce through. Luckily, Candelabrador is what evolves the Axe anyway.
- Cooldown bonuses are very effective for the Death Spiral, because of its slow cooldown. Might bonuses are also highly effective, due to the bonuses being applied to a weapon with already very high base damage. Amount bonuses shooting out more scythes covering more screen area with less blind spots.
- Death Spiral can deal critical damage after Slash (XVI) is picked. The more Luck you have, the more likely you are to deal critical hits. Luck can be increased with Clover, Little Clovers, or the Luck PowerUp.
- When playing Mask of the Red Death, it is possible to obtain Axe in addition to Death Spiral. However, it cannot be evolved into Death Spiral.
- With the Clock Lancet you can freeze enemies and stand directly on top of them to maximize damage, as the projectiles spawn on top of the enemies.
Trivia[]
- This weapon is inspired by the axe sub-weapon and Death's Scythe weapon from the Castlevania series. The Item Crash of the axe sub-weapon summons a circle of axes, and it spiral outward from the player, similar to the Death Spiral, except the Death Spiral shoot scythes straight out.
