Gold Coins are the basic currency in the game and are used for purchasing PowerUps, new characters, and items from Merchant.
Obtaining[]
Gold Coins can be obtained as pickups in the form of Gold Coin, Coin Bag or Rich Coin Bag from destroyed light sources. Opening Treasure Chests will always give a random amount of Gold Coins between 60-500. If none of the items in your inventory can be upgraded, new Chests will award extra coins instead, and once your inventory is full and maxed out, level ups will give you an option for extra Coins. Gold Coins are also awarded when you finish the run just after being killed by The Reaper.
The amount of Gold Coins earned can be increased with Greed stat, which can be gained from the PowerUp of the same name (up to +50%) and the Stone Mask (up to +50%) passive item. Additionally, the Hyper mode's modifiers in any stage further increase the amount of gold gained (x1.5 - x2 multiplier). With aforementioned upgrades, you can gain up to 4x the original amount of coins.
Gold Coins have a visual cap of 9,999,999. The true amount of gold obtained is only visible in game and in the results screen. The internal amount of Gold Coins is hard capped at 3.402823 E+38, which is the 32-bit floating point maximum.
