Hectic Highway is the second stage in the Operation Guns DLC. This stage can be unlocked by evolving C-U-Laser.
Alternatively, Hectic Highway can be unlocked in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane by casting the Spell "hardcorpshighspeed".
Description[]
"Contra Force, rev your jetbikes - its time to drive fast, and fire faster. Red falcon traitors are invading the C-1 Highway for some treasonable reason, and we need you to defend our crucial infrastructure."
Effects[]
Similar to Carlo Cart, this stage has a unique mechanic where the stage itself scrolls to the right, independent of the player's movement, creating an impression of the character moving along the highway and enemies appearing to be "chasing" the player. Aside from its visual effects, dropped items and destructibles are directly affected by the scrolling effect, moving with the stage. Pickups and treasure chests must be "caught" while they are still in front the player and failing to do so results in the items getting left behind. Attempting to move westward in order to go after items will be futile as the pace of the scrolling effect counteracts the character's own movement, preventing passed by items from being reached. After a set point, the stage resets, which allows items left behind to be gathered.
Although to a lesser extent, the scrolling effect affects enemies as well, with the stage tugging all enemies slightly to the left, causing enemies to stutter as they oppose the drag with their own movement.
Other elements are unaffected by the stage's scrolling affect, such as weapons or passive items spawned by certain characters (e.g., Santa Ladonna, Eleanor Uziron
) or Random Events and the coffin of a secret character found on the stage. These remain at the location they initially appeared and do not move along the stage.
