The player can unlock this character by killing The Reaper. A guide on how to do it is available at The Reaper § Strategies.
After unlocking, Mask of the Red Death can be purchased for 
666, scaling with other purchases.
Alternatively, Mask of the Red Death can be unlocked in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane by casting the Spell "ablasphemousmockery".

Mask of the Red Death starts with +155 Max Health, +100% Movement Speed, and +20% Might.
Tips[]
- He is one of the character with the highest Movement Speed. This makes him suitable for reaching areas far away from the spawn point, such as relics, coffins, and secrets.

- Mask of the Red Death's starting max health before power-ups is 255, which is likely a reference to computing where 255 is the maximum value representable by an eight-digit binary number, and therefore the maximum representable by an unsigned 8-bit integer.
- Like many other Vampire Survivors characters, Mask of the Red Death is a direct reference to a character from Konami's Castlevania series, in this case Death, a recurring antagonistic character and loyal servant of Dracula, who is also depicted as a flying skeleton wearing a worn out robe and holding a scythe.
- His name is a reference to Edgar Allan Poe's 1842 story The Masque of the Red Death.
- The character description "A blasphemous mockery" is also a quote from Edgar Allan Poe's 1842 story The Masque of the Red Death, being the description Prince Prospero gives the Red Death.
