Spinach is a passive item that increases all damage done.

Passive Items (also referred to as Passive Weapons) are non-weapon items that give the player bonuses to their stats, similar to PowerUps. They are offered to the player alongside weapons whenever the player levels up.

The player can select up to six different passive items from level ups, but it is possible to carry more by picking up passive items that generate with the stage. Most passive items must be unlocked before they can be offered to the player.

Most passive items are unique, which means a character can only get them once per run, and there is no way to get the same passive item multiple times (even if it is consumed, like Tirajisú). The only exception is Weapon Power-Up, which can be acquired multiple times by picking them up on Neo Galuga.

Most passive items can be used to evolve a particular normal weapon each to a stronger one.

See Combos page for a list of which Weapon and Arcana is affected by stats and their corresponding passive items, PowerUps, and Arcana.

Types[]

The base game has 21 passive items, 17 of which are normal passive items and 4 of which are special passive items. In addition, there are 10 passive items that are only available in DLCs: 1 from the Tides of the Foscari DLC, 8 from the Emergency Meeting DLC, and 1 from the Operation Guns DLC, bringing the total number of passive items in the game to 31.

There are certain passive items in the game referred to as "special passive items", which cannot appear normally from the level-up choices and must be collected from a stage or by fulfilling set conditions in order to obtain them. These special passives include the passive items unlocked after collecting the Yellow Sign and most of DLC-exclusive passive items.

Mini Crewmates[]

The Emergency Meeting DLC introduces a group of new passive items known as mini crewmates. Each of them are exclusive to a certain Emergency Meeting DLC weapon, and only occur in item pool once matching weapon reaches certain level. Instead of stat bonus, they provide a hidden weapon and a pet that follows the character. All of evolutions from this DLC needs maxing out both weapon and the exclusive mini crewmate, and the mini crewmate will be consumed in evolution (the pet will be kept).

Weapon Power-Up[]

The Operation Guns DLC introduces a new passive items named Weapon Power-Up. It will only occur in item pool after taking any Operation Guns DLC weapon, and evolving each of these weapon needs to consume one Weapon Power-Up. Weapon Power-Up will occur in item pool again after previous one being consumed.

When picked, Weapon Power-Up upgrades a random weapon and gives +1 revival to the character. It won't be counted by inventory in the passive item limit (you still need to have at least one empty passive item slot to obtain it).

Familiars[]

The Ode to Castlevania DLC introduces real, AI-controlled familiars (secondary characters) to the game. They can be obtained by taking a Familiar Forge or by certain characters' passive features. Familiars won't be counted by inventory slot in the passive item limit. Each Familiars have their own weapons, inherit all passive effects of the main character, and won't take damage. A character can get multiple copies of the same Familiar.

Stage items[]

Empty Tome Library

An Empty Tome lying on a stool in Inlaid Library.

On each normal stage, certain passive items spawn on the map. Milky Way Map displays the locations of these items. Each item is guaranteed to appear at least once, but certain items have a chance of spawning more than once, depending on the starting Luck.

Stages spawn the following items:

Upon moving to an item, it can be picked up or discarded. If you already have the item, it grants a free level if not at max level. If you already have 6 or more passive items, it becomes an additional passive item and can be thereafter upgraded from level ups. If discarded, the item disappears and can no longer be picked up.

Hidden stage items[]

After obtaining the Yellow Sign, four additional passive items will spawn in all normal, bonus and challenge stages. These passive items cannot be obtained through any other means than picking them up during a run. The first time entering a stage after getting Yellow Sign, the game will automatically pause to show the new hidden stage items that were added:

  • Silver Ring, usually found due north of the starting area.
  • Gold Ring, usually found due south of the starting area.
  • Metaglio Left, usually found due west of the starting area.
  • Metaglio Right, usually found due east of the starting area.

Each hidden stage item is guarded by an Atlantean that spawns when the player gets close to the item. The player does not have to defeat the guard to pick up the item, but they will continue to follow the player until defeated. If the stage item was attracted using Mad Groove (VIII), the guard will not appear until the item is interacted with.

Tips[]

  • It is wise to devote the majority of your passive item slots (at least 4) with stats that benefits weapons like Might, Area, Projectile Speed, Duration, Cooldown, and Amount. Save items that you only get for evolutions like Armor, Wings, Stone Mask, etc. for after you already have a clear direction of your build.
  • If the passive item you need for your build is already a stage item, take it after you have filled your passive item slots to get the most benefit out of all of them.
    • However, there are situations where a stage item is too far from your initial location and selecting it early from level-up choices would be a better decision. This is the case for items where it is needed to evolve a weapon, or for items that are necessary to save your current run from an imminent game-over.

Trivia[]

  • In the game files for Abyss Foscari, there are six Attractorb that can spawn, five of which are at 20%, but since you can only have five levels, the sixth is simply removed at the start of the stage. This appears to be an oversight as there are only three extra Stone Masks are programmed for four spawns, meaning the extra Attractorb is taking up a Stone Mask slot.
