”Said to be the result of attempts to create a “Bone Moon” for reasons that defy all sense and logic. Driven by hundreds of minds with a singular purpose, it is drawn to places of high skeletal activity with the intent of adding to its chittering mass and growing ever bigger. How would a Bone Moon even work? Pray this horrifying absurdity never comes to pass.
- — Ars Gouda, p. 84
Sketamari is a special enemy that appears in The Bone Zone. Unlike most enemies, it does not spawn as part a wave or map event, but instead can be found naturally due south of The Bone Zone's center, traveling back and forth horizontally. Defeating Sketamari for the first time drops Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane.
Finding Sketamari can prove extremely difficult prior to obtaining Yellow Sign (obtained in Holy Forbidden) as no guides or question marks will appear in The Bone Zone until after Yellow Sign has been picked up.
Behavior[]
Sketamari is made up of many skeletal enemies, including Skeletons, Skullinos, Skeleton Panthers, Skeletones, Winged Skeletons, and Skullones. It rolls back and forth to the south of the center of the stage. As the player moves closer to it, the sound of it rolling will become louder.
Sketamari is immune to freeze, instant kill effects such as Pentagram and Rosary, and other debuffs.
Absorption[]
Enemies that touch Sketamari will be instantly defeated and absorbed (including Reapers), yielding no Experience, Chests, or other drops.
Each time Sketamari absorbs an enemy, it will grow larger.
- Starting at 0.25, its scale grows by 0.001 until 1.
- At 1, its scale grows by 0.00085 per enemy until 1.5.
- At 1.5, its scale grows by 0.00065 per enemy until 2.
- At 2, its scale grows by 0.0005 per enemy until 3.
- At 3, its scale grows by 0.00025 per enemy until 4, after which it will not grow anymore.
The amount of health gained from an absorbed enemy is calculated based on the scale via the following procedure:
- The formula
Math.max(1, scale)is used to get a health dividerX. - Then
Xis used inMath.min(2,500, 0.2 * enemy health / X), where the enemy health is multiplied by 0.2 and then divided byMath.max(1, scale) "X", the lower value between the division and 2,500 is taken.- Due to the previous step, the divisor will not be less than 1, increasing the value, or greater than 4, as the scale will not go above it.
- Even when a Reaper gets absorbed, it will only give it 2,500 health at max. Other sources also slowly give less as it gets larger because of the health divider is based on its scale.
- The final value is then added to both its current HP and max HP.
If the player is further than 60,000 units away, this will not happen. Although, most enemies despawn already at a much shorter distance, preventing them from being absorbed.
Radius and speed[]
Sketamari's radius is 200 times its scale. The bigger the radius is, the slower it also rolls. It has various speed multipliers:
- Its general movement speed is determined by the formula
Math.max(0.5 x player's speed, player's speed - 0.01 x radius) - When it takes knockback, it moves backwards at 90% of its normal speed. Once it reaches a radius of 150 or higher, it will not be pushed back from knockback anymore.
Counter strategy[]
Because Sketamari grows by way of absorbing the monsters it touches but cannot grow when the player is further away from the bone ball, it is ideal to start the fight only after equipping the player character with many weapons. But later in the match, there are more waves! So, it is better to not start the fight too late.
If there are large waves of many enemies or many strong bosses on the screen, you can prevent Sketamari getting too powerful by run 60,000 units away so that the bone ball will stop growing. Re-enter the fight on waves with fewer monsters. The grim reapers and bosses near the guides give Sketamari more health so it's better to fight them away from the bone ball.
In hurry-rush mode, in order to sufficiently empower the player character, it can be a good idea to use reroll to get ideal weapons early. It may also be a good idea to get crown at an early level. It is also easy to get stuck fighting the bosses that spawn near guides so time miniboss fights carefully. The ring and direction passives are cursed and will reduce your odds of getting the power ups you want when you level so consider waiting until after you slay Sketamari before picking up those guides. There should be plenty enough time if you start fighting Sketamari around the 12-15 minute mark.
There are several strategies that can be employed to destroy Sketamari more or less easily:
- One strategy consists of attempting to slay Sketamari in the extreme early game, before massive hordes start coming in. Effects that damage a large chunk of the screen, like La Robba, Lightning Ring and Santa Water, can help clean up enemies before they can reach Sketamari, reducing its ability to heal and grow. Fire Wand, Magic Wand, and Cross will bounce three times if in combination with Waltz of Pearls (XI), creating enough burst damage to slay Sketamari before they are upgraded to more advanced spells.
- Sir Ambrojoe with the Beginning (X) arcana is suitable for this, you could also use Porta locked at level 1 with Game Killer (0) to minimize the cooldown on Lightning Ring.
- Powerful full-screen weapons, like Godai Shuffle, SpellStrom or Rocket Science, should help keep hordes in check and minimize Sketamari's healing.
- Infinite Corridor shaves off half of the target's current health with each pulse. This makes Sketamari's healing essentially a non-issue and can be used to kill it at any point in the game.
- Most Divine Bloodline (IX)-based builds, as well as Impostongue Cosmo Pavone, should have enough raw DPS to easily overpower Sketamari through its healing in the late game.
- Sandwiching the Sketamari between Soul Eater and La Borra. La Borra keeps it from growing larger and controlling its movement, while Soul Eater and other weapons do damage to it.

Trivia[]
- Sketamari's name is most likely a reference to Katamaris from the game Katamari Damacy. These objects, much like Sketamari, roll around and pick up objects, gradually becoming larger.
- If you keep looking at Sketamari's entry in the Bestiary for long enough, it will start growing, eventually getting big enough to cover the entire screen.
